What are we doing?

This is a space for the students of ENC1142-10, “Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves: Writing Creatively about Romani Culture,” to think critically and write about the representation of Romani people in pop culture, the human rights issues for Romanies globally, as well as Romani arts and culture. As a teacher and a woman of Romani heritage, I hope to navigate some of the issues surrounding this rich and diverse culture with my students, and to shed light on antigypsism and its disturbingly systemic manifestations. And of course, I hope that  this blog becomes a place for students to experiment with ideas and creativity, improve their writing, and cultivate a discussion.
